One Fry at a Time: The Goudhurst Inn’s Partnership with Hospice in the Weald

At The Goudhurst Inn, we believe a pub is more than just a place to enjoy great food, drink, and conversation - it’s the heart of the community.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with Hospice in the Weald, a charity dedicated to providing compassionate care and support for those facing terminal or life-limiting illnesses.

Starting in Autumn 2024, we launched a simple initiative to make a big difference. For every portion of our famous fish and chips sold, £1 will be donated directly to Hospice in the Weald. By enjoying Britain’s most iconic dish, you’re helping to fund vital care for patients and their families during life’s most challenging moments.

A Lifeline for Those in Need

Hospice in the Weald is an invaluable part of our local community, offering free care, advice, and support to individuals and families dealing with terminal illnesses. Their team empowers people to celebrate life, make meaningful memories, and navigate their journey with dignity and compassion.

Orlando Mantova, General Manager of The Goudhurst Inn, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative:

“At The Goudhurst Inn, we’re deeply inspired by the work of Hospice in the Weald. Their commitment to providing compassionate care aligns perfectly with our values, and we’re honoured to support their mission. Together, we can make a real difference in our community.”

Lisa Browning, Relationship Fundraising Manager at Hospice in the Weald, added:

“What a great way for people to support their local Hospice and their local pub—everyone loves fish and chips! Thanks to The Goudhurst Inn and Balfour, every pound donated will help our team provide free care and support to those who need it most.”

More Than Just Fish & Chips

This partnership is part of a larger initiative across Balfour’s group of countryside pubs, each supporting causes close to their communities. From Kent to Sussex and the Cotswolds, every £1 from fish and chips sold at our sister pubs also goes directly to a local cause.

How You Can Get Involved

There are many ways to support Hospice in the Weald and make a difference for those in need. By simply enjoying fish and chips at The Goudhurst Inn, £1 from every portion will go directly to the charity. If you’re inspired to do more, you can participate in their diverse fundraising events, like marathons, festive celebrations, or unique challenges, or even create your own initiative to raise vital funds. Businesses can also get involved through corporate partnerships, building sustainable relationships that benefit both the community and the company.

You can volunteer your time and skills, joining over 1,000 volunteers in roles such as retail assistance or event support, helping the Hospice deliver its outstanding palliative care. For those who want to contribute in other ways, direct donations are always welcome and impactful. Sharing the message with friends, family, and colleagues is another simple yet powerful way to raise awareness of Hospice in the Weald’s invaluable work. Every effort—big or small—helps provide care and comfort to those facing life-limiting illnesses and their families.

A Pub With Purpose

So, next time you’re enjoying a plate of our golden fish and chips, know that every bite is helping to create a more caring and supportive community. Together, we can bring comfort, care, and hope to those who need it most—one fry at a time.
